Concerts in 2008

This coming Fall, FARAFINA will be back in Australia and Europe for a concert tour.

7-9 mars : WOMADelaide (Australie)

14-16 mars 2008 : WOMAD Taranaki New Zealand

4 Juillet 2008 : Espagne Zaragoza (option)

 


Strengthened with a new energy, the musicians, with among them some new faces, have chosen a challenging musical approach by dropping the keyboard and the guitar they have introduced a few years ago.

By returning to exclusively African instruments, FARAFINA embraces a challenging path. It’s by far not a “stepping back” move but a clear choice for getting closer to its sources of inspiration, looking for a new language through the approach of composing in a different way, exploring minimalist structures, searching for the very essence of its music by trying out new forms of orchestration.


It’s amazing to see how FARAFINA is a group as much as an open space, having seen all the way through its history musicians come and go. But what’s the crossing point that binds all the musicians that have been part of the group, from the very first ones to those performing today ?
It’s their faithfulness to the fundamental principal that has revealed FARAFINA by being able to deliver their music in a contemporary way, connected to the world, performed with their own instruments. By doing so, FARAFINA passes on its message, showing by the example that it’s possible to legitimately aim for contemporary aesthetics by using traditional instruments.
